SPAIN – It is legal to be nude in public anywhere in Spain, but Alberto Fernández Díaz, PP party president for Barcelona has other ideas. He’s proposing a municipal law that will prohibit nudity in the city except in designated areas. Diaz claims that it’s become increasingly common to come across naked people in popular public places, and this irritates some citizens as well as damages the city’s reputation. He also worries about nudists eventually using the public transportation system, which he believes would be unhygienic. The politician had proposed a similar ordinance in the past, only to see it quashed by the mayor at the time.
