Skinbook, A Nudist “Facebook”

A group of young people from Manchester, England, launched Skinbook, a social network inspired from Facebook. The founders claim the site offers a way for people to “come out” as nudists and that thousands of people have done just that already, posting their photos and profiles. Note that there’s quite a few nudist social networks already in existence, some of which have been around for more than a year. Visit Skinbook here (Skinbook.com isn’t it!)

Nudist Hotel Planned in Germany

Imagine entering into your hotel, which from the outside looks like any other, and being asked to immediately get naked even before you check-in. This is exactly how the Hotel Rosengarten plans to greet its patrons, in what they claim will be Germany’s first “comprehensively nudist” inn. Guests must be nude at all times within the confines of the building, year-round, no exceptions made. It’s not clear if or when the hotel will actually open, and their website is in German only.

Australian Beach Nudists Fight Perverts

Users of Tyagarah nudist beach near Byron Bay, New South Wales, had enough of seeing inappropriate behavior such as men masturbating or harassing female sunbathers as well as the occasional couple having sex in broad daylight. Sporadic beach patrols by police from nearby communities haven’t had the desired effect, they say, and thus they decided to take matters into their own hands and launched their own citizens’ beach patrol. Their tactics include calling-out and confronting offenders.

Naked Rambler Still in Jail

Steve Gough, the Englishman who waged an often solitary campaign for body freedom for several years and generated much publicity via his two Naked Walks across Great Britain, is still serving his sentence in an Edinburgh, Scotland jail. His extended stay was a direct result of his refusal to dress during his court appearances, as well as repeat charges of public lewdness (aka being nude in public) anytime he was released. One incident saw him disrobe aboard a non-nudist flight.

Skinbook is NOT representative of real nudists or nudism, very few would actually be nudists, the rest just looking for thrills, sex or some nude photos, until they actually screen a verify people are whom they say, it will have little relevance to those whom are dedicated to the nudist lifestyle.

I got this reather disturbing email a few hours ago

It is with much regret that I have come to the decision to bring Skinbook to an end.

After all the effort (and money) we have put into saving the Skinbook network; the complaining, negativity, abuse and general lack of support we have recieved from our users has been quite frankly, disgusting… I am no longer prepared to provide the Skinbook network to any members past or present.

As much as we have attempted over the past couple of years to bring together the naturist community and give the naturist lifestyle a positive public image, the treatment of my team here at Skinbook has finally made it clear (to myself at least) why this lifestyle is both fragmented from within and ostracized from without. What you take this to mean is up to you to speculate individually. For me this revelation doesn’t require an explination, it requires merely a reaction; my reaction being that from now on I see fit only to completely distance myself from this lifestyle (from both a philosophical and physical stand point) and most certainly from ANY medium which serves to promote it.

Good luck in your quests to find unity within your chosen lifestyle… you need it!

WOW! I can’t believe what I’m hearing/reading. I think it’s quite immature and sophmoric of the ppl giving you a hard time. The birthday suit is worn by everyone. What’s their issue? And to get nasty about it baffles me. I was actually contacting this site to join, but apparently the degenerate societal anti-nude freaks got to you first. Can’t stand ‘em! If the naked body cannot be tolerated – those pppl need serious psychotherapy! Sorry, man.. you gave it a great shot. I wish you luck in future endeavors! Timo…

  4. Good news: Skinbook has been given a new lease of life at http://skinbook1.ning.com

At the moment it is starting out small until more people become confident with the new direction that it’s going to take. The new Skinbook will be focused on health, exercise, leisure, environmentalism and family values.

No flame-wars, no inappropriate imagery, and most importantly, no undesirable moderators to mess people about.

Hope everybody has a wonderful Christmas. :)
