ALICANTE, SPAIN – A concerted campaign by the Spanish naturist federation (FEN) resulted in the cancellation of an anti-nudist by-law passed June 16, 2008, by the municipality of Alicante. The legislation called for heavy fines to persons found nude on the city’s beaches. Although the bill was unconstitutional and any convictions would certainly have been overturned in court, it would certainly have subjected nudists to harassment by authorities had it been allowed to stick.
