The Settler

  • General aspect: Appears “settled-in”.
  • Identifying traits: You’ll recognize this type of nude beach denizen by the amount of paraphernalia they bring along with them. Mandatory is the huge sun umbrella, a comfy foldout chair, the cooler with food and drinks, and a cart with fat wheels to drag all their stuff around. Many also bring along a radio or a small television set.
  • Habits: The settlers usually have a preferred spot on the strand, which they’ll jealously stake-out every time they visit (virtually every day). The settler might be retired or not, but certainly spends a great part of his or her day at the nude beach, usually arriving first and leaving last.
  • Social behavior: The settler is very relaxed and generally sociable nudist and seems to know all the other settlers on the beach. If approached, the settler will generally be welcoming.

    The Newbie

  • General aspect: Nervous Nellie.
  • Identifying traits: Pronounced tan lines or very pale skin overall.
  • Habits: Walks briskly, fully dressed, to elected spot on the beach, generally away from everybody. Strips quickly and typically lies face down. Likely reading a book.
  • Social behavior: Shy as heck, but approachable.

    The Exhibitionist

  • General aspect: Usually male and very visible.
  • Identifying traits: Comes in all shapes and sizes, but almost always has a penis.
  • Habits: Stands in one place near the shore for extremely long periods of time.
  • Behavior: Doesn’t seek contact with other beach creatures, but likes to be admired. Best to leave this one alone!
