How will Naturism survive and thrive?
Nudism has a long way to go before it’s in the mainstream. True, surveys show that a significant percentage of adults in western nations have either tried going “au naturel” or have the mindset to try it eventually. However, if you eliminate all those who aren’t serious adepts of the lifestyle, you’re not left with a crowd. The larger naturist organization in the US, the American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR), boasts that they have 50,000 members, which is truly not much in a country of some 280 million people. You might even say it’s incredibly low, considering how long nudist venues have been available in the US.
In order for any group of people to sustain or grow its numbers, it obviously needs a steady flow of fresh recruits. Perhaps the consistently low numbers are due to a catch 22 situation: The nudist demographics are indisputably of advanced age and overwhelmingly male. Thus, there could be 2 major focal points for growth in the naturist movement: attract younger members, and also attract more female members. We’ll be bouncing some constructive ideas around via this blog, both Nudist Day’s as well as those of others. Stay tuned!
