As it turns out, disgraced Republican congressman Mark Foley, who in September resigned amidst charges he had numerous sexually explicit dialogs with teenage boys over the internet, is the very same Florida representative who mounted a vitriolic campaign against nudist youth camps in his state, back in 2003. The self-proclaimed defender of children’s rights was using the issue as nothing more than a cover for his own moral depravity as well as a ploy to get votes from an increasingly right-wing public, it now appears.
For all the noise he made at the time regarding supposed nudist immorality, the Florida legislature found no evidence whatsoever of impropriety toward children in the state’s nudist community. That would be because we’re not perverts like you, mister Foley!
In an ABC News (the network that exposed him) blog, you can witness some of the shocking internet chats Foley had with male minors. Not surprisingly, hours after ABC News first confronted him, the congressman resigned. Amazingly, Republican staffers knew about Foley’s predilection for young males as far back as 2001, and male pages were even told to be weary of him.
