Profile of a Northern Nudist Community

There are many nudist communities across the world, places where naturists live and play year-round. Many you’ll find in warm climates such as Florida, others in places where the temperature is more often cold than hot.
One such “nude village” I visited with my friend Linda in August, 2006 was “Oasis”, just north of Montreal, Quebec. A community of around 80 families managed by a jovial Quebecois, Rejean, who took the time to tell us a bit about this lovely place. He explained to us that he strived to make it a place that is safe for families with children, and indeed we noted many kids playing au naturel on this rather chilly, rainy day. Curiously, when I asked him why there weren’t any wooded areas, Rejean responded that he didn’t want to encourage “misbehavior”. I’m not sure if I agree that trees invite bawdy behavior!
The mostly french-speaking people we came across were all quite cheerful and friendly despite the inclement weather. As in every nudist community, you’ll find the usual “cliche” features: restaurant/bar, swimming pool, Jacuzzi, volley ball, etc. However, one very original feature, we thought, was that the streets were all made of fine white sand, thus making it possible to walk bare feet. There isn’t a lot of things going on during the week in this village, but on weekends, the night reverberate with the sounds emanating from their discotheque, where you can dance nude (something often prohibited in other clubs).
Should you happen to be in Montreal during the summer, Oasis does offer you economical cabins and camping facilities for your stay.
