Nudist Day has tried for some to interview people owning and operating one of the many online nudist dating sites, but strangely, none wanted to talk. That is, until we came across Brian Spence and his companion, Californians who own and manage the highly rated Single Nudist dating site. They answered our questions with such honesty that we got much more than we had hoped for: an insightful expose on what’s right and what’s wrong in the online nudist dating world!

Nudist Day: When did this site first open to the public?
Single Nudist: We opened in July of 2001. [Editor’s note: founded by Mr. Spence]

ND: Are you yourselves nudists?
SN: Brian 11 years, Christina 2 and a half years.

ND: What drove you to do this site?
SN: As the owner of nudist travel club Naturally California, Brian was looking for a way to help gender imbalance by providing a way outside of club events for the singles to meet each other. By moving the dating element outside of the club events, a lot of pressure was relieved from single women wanting to come to the events without being pressured by the single men present. Also, it is a common for first time nudist single men to ask where they can meet single nudist women. Before we started our website, we really did not have a place with a wholesome nudist reputation to refer them to.

ND: You require that users be members of the AANR (American Assoc. for Nude Recreation): Why this limitation? Does it lend more credibility to the service?
SN: If you compare our website to the other matchmaking websites that claim to be for nudists, you will notice that we are the only one that represents a wholesome nudist environment. All of the other sites that I have seen allow couples seeking couples, erotic photos, links to non-wholesome nudist sites, fake female accounts, ads for webcam girls, or porn-like affiliate programs. By verifying an AANR membership for each individual, we know that each person really exists, and is serious about wholesome nude recreation. Also, with all of the work that AANR does promoting nude recreation, and fighting to keep nude recreation legal, we firmly believe that it is in everyone’s interest to be an AANR member to help protect our brand of wholesome nude recreation for future generations. We do not view this as a limitation. We have heard from many of our members who try the other sites that they keep coming back to our site, because the profiles on our site are of real people. While the other sites may claim higher numbers, we are the honest site who can back up our numbers to real people. We firmly believe that this is because of the AANR membership requirement.

ND: Is the service for pay only? Are there different level accounts [Ex: Silver,Gold,etc] that are typically found in dating sites?
SN: There is only one level of service. The first requirement is the AANR membership. AANR charges $52 for a single membership. We only charge $40, and include 30 free days of SingleNudist.com when they purchase their AANR membership from us. Then, it is $9.99 for 30 days, or as low as $6.99 per month if you purchase 4 or more months at the same time.

ND: How many active users are there at present?
SN: We have approximately 500 active users, with over 8000 registered. The mix of people changes constantly. Also, unlike other sites, we remove the profiles of inactive people. That keeps our active count lower, but you know that the profiles are of real people looking to meet others.

ND: What’s the male/female user ratio?
SN: Similar to the nudist community, we have about 4 men to each woman.

ND: What percentage of users are young, say between 18 and 35?
SN: Again, similar to the nudist community at large, 90% of our members are over 35 years old. There was a story in the AP just last week that backs up that number.

ND: Are there controls in place to prevent lewd photos and language?
SN: Every uploaded photo is approved by a live human being before it is visible by the public. We also require that their face is clearly visible in their photo. We also review every written profile, and have a system in place where our members can report anything that they feel is not up to our standards. Since 2001, we have really only had 3 problem incidents with members who were there for the wrong reasons, and they were all dealt with swiftly.

ND: The catch 22 of any web-based social community is getting it off the ground: people won’t join because “there’s nobody”. Was that not a problem in your case and how did you solve it?
SN: When we opened our doors in 2001, we operated for free for a few years. While this was a huge financial loss, it was really the only way to get off to an honest start. Take a look at all of the fake profiles on the other startups.

ND: What reasons would you give to nudists to use your service instead of the competition?
SN: We are the ONLY nudist matchmaking site on the web that believes in traditional wholesome nudist values. We are the only nudist matchmaking site affiliated with AANR, TNS and ClothesFree.com. We are the only nudist matchmaking site run by full time nudists living in a nudist resort. We run an honest business, and we strive to help grow the nudist community and a home for singles within it. We advertise in the traditional manner, and purchase ads in nudist publications to keep our nudist dollars within the nudist community. We host in-person singles receptions at the National AANR convention. Both Brian and Christina are very active in the nudist community. ND: What are your plans for the future regarding the nudist dating business?
SN: In the future we will strive to continue to bring a quality nudist matchmaking service to all wholesome nudist singles who need a place to meet. We will continue to upgrade our software to enhance and improve the user experience, while working hard to increase the membership numbers of singles both on our website, and also of anyone wanting to participate in nude recreation at whatever level they see fit.
